Yeah I've always wanted to do some hands on work on my car, and well this is my chance

i think you will be fine, make sure you do your research and ask a lot of questions. if you have somebody with you whom has worked on cars before would be a very nice thing.

also consider joining a local off-road club. there annual fees are very small and there will be members that would be more then happy to help you learn/wrench on your jeep. its just a matter of putting yourself out there.

I live in LA, theres not many off-roading stuff here.

Its a lot of sports car clubs and stuff more than anything.

But i have a friend who works on his car and i was planning on asking him to help me with this project.
Since he prob has more of an idea on stuff than i do.

i use to live in san diego 4 wheel drive clubs are a dime a dozen out there.

I live by long Beach and i saw the clubs. The closest one close to me is Santa Monica, or Santa Ana they are both about 30-40 minutes away.

still might be something to consider, normally they wont have a meeting more then once a month and will do rides in a lot of surrounding areas. for the amount of actual physical help they could provide you it would be something to look into.

find a club that you like, most of them have an online forum that you can contact them by or you can call. Many clubs have very decent online websites.

I have the 4cyl, in my 4x4 cherokee, it does very well, its not as fast or pwerful as the 4.0 jeeps, but does just as well as the V-6s ive wheeled with... gas mileage is a bit better than the 6cyl ones, and if nothing else i think itll be less harsh on the drivetrain...
