Mystery clunk update;
About a month ago I posted a thread asking for help with a clunk I couldn't identify, rather than reopening that thread I'll just post an update since a few of you asked for me to update when I found out what it was. End of run on sentence. I checked everything that was suggested with nothing abnormal that I could see or feel. So one day the clunking happened after the Jeep had been sitting an hour so and I noticed immediately when I pressed the brakes the clunking stopped! I forgot to shim the brake pads when I did my brakes! My theory is the pads are moving around and hitting the knuckle hard enough to cause a slight jolt along with an obnoxious clunk. Scary as heck, sounds and feels like the axle is going to fall off but otherwise harmless. Pad wear is normal rotors and knuckles look fine so I'm not going to worry about it until I change the pads or if the issue happens all the time (it currently goes away after a block). So what did I learn? I need to slow down and realise that everything has a purpose.
