During the course of my 2001 XJ receiving a '98 ZJ engine, I realized I'm missing something that looks like a relay from the picture I found. Right now I just have a two-lead pig tail hanging right by the oil pressure switch and the oil filter. I don't know if I really need it, but I'd imagine I probably do!



P.S. The picture is not of me pointing at the plug, and it's not even me. It's the only one I could find. I circled the thing that I think I'm missing... I have that pig tail just hanging there, without the black relay thing hooked up or even there... My oil pressure switch connector that the guy is pointing to, is plugged in and fine on my rig.

 

More than likely you won't have a relay plugged into your connector. It probably goes to an ignition Coil Capacitor.

Your original engine should have the capacitor fastened to the engine.

Check your connector, if it only has one pin it's the capacitor connector, if it has more than one pin (four?) it's for a relay that bubba installed.
