This is what I used, worked great. As long as you're gentle, it's fine.
I didn't have much choice, as my axles were out when I did mine...
Definitely get a torque wrench that will handle the value needed for the hub nut...rent one from the local parts store if needed. DON'T put any miles on it until you get it done right.

So job completed and successful. Had to borrow a torque wrench from a coworker. Figured I would check the torque on the pitman arm nut while I had it since that gets torqued to 185.
In conclusion I will be purchasing a ball joint press and torque wrench in the near future. Thankfully a friend lent me his nice OTC press. But the cups he had were mostly made by him. And all of it has seen better days. Definitely need to get the D30 specific stuff.
In hindsight, lift the Jeep body after getting the wheels off and setting the axle on stands. This was on a stock height Jeep. I couldn't get a socket and ratchet on the press when doing the upper joints and used a wrench. The end of the clamp was nearly touching the top of the wheel well. That won't be a problem if your Jeep is lifted though. One more good reason to lift it.
Other than that it all went well. The upper joint do have some stud showing. It looks like maybe the axle shaft does point downward a bit at the joint. There's no binding though and everything went together good. Not sure if it's enough to cause any premature wear on the joints or bearing. Time will tell. Tomorrow I think I'm going to throw on some rotors and pads also. I was going to get the rotors turned but my wife said just buy new ones.
