Glad you solved the overheating problem.
But I would not describe 10W-40 oil as having a thin nature. It's actually rather thick for our engines, and is very thick as compared to modern oils used in modern engines.
You've just got a leaky oil pan gasket. Not the oil's fault.

?...........
So what I did to solve the overheating.
I went to autozone and picked up a 13 inch electric radiator fan, cut off the stock plug that comes on it and soldered it to the existing electeic radiator fan wiring. Kicks on at around 215 and cools the jeep down real quick. No more overheating episodes!

Yeah, this is something MAJOR that I should have mentioned when I first started this thread. When I bought my xj, it was only cooled by the mechanical clutch-driven fan. I guess the prev. owners efan blew up and he never bothered to change it. Also a contribution to why my jeep liked to overheat so much

Did u install a new fan clutch on the belt driven fan? If I read the FSM correctly, factory non-a/c XJs (rare) did not have a efan from the factory and apparently they ran cool with just belt fan presuming the cooling system was in top notch condition. Do u have/use a/c?

Jeep does have ac, but lines are cut and ac condenser is missing... this xj is really a piece of work.
