Rebuilt engine?...could it be an older crate engine with the old style cam spring loaded tensioner pin he's referring to? Otherwise don't make much sense.

Not sure what "roll pin" means, but the inside of about any sprocket I've seen has a slot for the woodriff key that fits in the slot on the shaft. Course nobody wants anything rolling there! You suggesting it has a lateral pin through it?

Is this the pin you are talking about? Item 2.

.
88-93 it's called a pin, 97 to 98 it's called dowel. 99 and newer it's not used. Odd names.

Edit: The part number J0456384 was used from 88 to 98. I think it was a solid steel dowel not a roll pin, but I don't know - never seen one (I have a 99 which doesn't use one.

Well, is it the pin shown as item #2 in the above catalog pic, or is it the thrust pin that goes in to the hole in the preload bolt (with the tension spring)?

Hopefully it will help someone else.. I bought the jeep for 1000$ and is one of the cleanest ones I've seen for the age and if I get it going and everything else is good I will have about 1400 in it.. it has a 6" lift and all new electrical parts replaced that can b and a newly rebuilt engine..
