Ok so its been getting colder and colder and one day I was driving my Cherokee, and it heard a very high pitched whining noise from the passengers side front. it only makes it when it hits about 15 mph, and it goes away (not sure if its because of the road noise or not) at about 55ish. I dont think it does it when its raining either, again there may just be too much exterior noise to hear it. Im almost 100% sure its just the passengers side front. I have checked my belts and Im sure its not them...Im looking to just be pointed in the right direction of what it could possibly be. Im just hoping the front needs to be greased or something.

Maybe a pulley needs to be replaced? Or maybe the passenger brake that's rubbing? Try checking those things

no i honestly dont think its anything in the bay...if I drive with the windows down it seems to be lounder on the passengers side coming from the front. if i park it and rev it, no noise. if i let it idle in drive no noise. just when I hit about 15 mph it starts. It doesnt seem to make the noise under heavy breaking or acceleration, however turning doesnt seem to affect the noise. I just checked the brakes a few days ago and they seemed fine, however im going to do a complete front end tear down(at least thats what im hoping) in the coming weeks. It doenst sound like the wear indicator on the pads rubbing, rather my friend described it as a very high pitched cat. its more of a squeaking than a rubbing or grinding. I have not noticed any affect on drivability or ride quality at all.

Sometimes a dry U-joint will sequel/chirp. Usually a (driven) rear will be rhythmic. Maybe a free-wheeling front could be different. Wonder if it changes in 4WD? Or...is your cat OK? Our Siamese sure made a racket once under the hood.

Inspect the hub assembly and the front axle shafts and joints. Good luck!

Just wandering if it has a vaccum leak somewhere causing it to
"whistle" at times. Do the heater controls work correctly?

I thought of that too. There's a vacuum line that runs up to a ball/resavore, behind the right front bumper. Vacuum is highest decelerating and at idle though. Yea, definitely if you have zirks on your U-joints.....if that DOES quiet it you may want to at least pick up a spare.

I just had a squeel from my left front. It came in at about 15 MPH and would disapear at about 40 MPH. It turned out to be rust on the hub seal. Put the front of the Jeep on jack stands, place your selector in 4 High, draw the parking brake up as tight as possible, remove the front right wheel (be sure to put at least one lug back on to hold the rotor), start the Jeep and put it in gear and take it up to where you can hear the noise. With a friend at the accelerator, take some spray silicone and start spraying until you find the source. Then figure out what you need to fix it.

Check your hub bearings. On my old taurus when the front hub bearings went bad they made a similar noise

my heat works fine, although it only blows out of the defrost vents, but its been like that since i got it, the vaccum ball is hooked up, as well as anything else I can see. However I have a suspicion that its not a vaccum leak, It way to loud to be so. The sound resonates off buildings lol its pretty loud. its more of a whining than a whistling.
