I'd take it somewhere that doesn't do tranys, like O'Reilies, and get the codes read. I didn't notice what year you have. You may be able to read them yourself with the key trick. Did someone see if the wires are hooked up?

Well it's a 1997 that I just bought recently, the only symptoms are the high rpm from stopped. It just feels like I'm starting in 3rd gear. I guess I overestimated the problem and took it to the shop ASAP, I was worried driving it in this condition could seriously hurt it. Let's hope this is the only gem the previous owner left me. Here's to praying it's something simple....and their honest

I think 97 is obdII? Or is it last year of obdI. Anyway, if you turn the key on, off, on, off, then on again it should flash a light on the dash with a code. The code key is first in the "Info" thread above. I'm no wizard here, but that's where I'd start. Good luck!
