Ok I traded a boomstick for this 88 cherokee limited. Original owner said he got it as a parts jeep but then started piecing it back together. He drove it for about a year while getting all the little things fixed and then the cps messed up for a second time and died on him when he was leaving work. he decided he was done with it. When I got it the cps had one loose bolt in it and the other was missing. I got another bolt and bolted the cps back on and it fired up but it has a rough idle, smells like its running rich, and stalls when you give it a little throttle. If you give half throttle or more it revs up fine however as it idles down it sounds like its backfiring through the exhaust. I have cleaned the dreaded c101 connection, tested the tps and map sensor, and fuel pressure is around 33psi at idle and jumps to 41 with vac lined removed. I have run some 6 Guage amp wire from battery to fender, from back of motor to fire wall, and I cleaned the ground connections on side of motor. I've checked vacuum lines and all vacuum lines are connected and not leaking. I'm testing cps today with volt/ohm meter today to make sure its ok. Is there anything I have missed. I'm at my wits end on this

Sounds like the timing is a little out from the CPS. Check cruiser54.com for info on how to calibrate the cps and the distributor. Great writeups. He'll probably stop by and comment here as you work through this.
