Ive pulled someone out using the rear shackles before also. Just note that your rope will most likely become stuck and nolonger usable afterwards if you pull it hard enough.

you wont hurt any thing but the rope back there i used a big shackle from a crane around my spring b4 i go a hitch never a issue

Axle near spring.
the best would be to use 2 ropes attached to axle/spring points.
This is how RWD cars with leaf springs move:
wheels push rear axle forward, rear axle pushes leaf springs forward
