I've replaced my fuel pump, intake air temp sesnor, crank position sensor, sprak plugs and have had no luck in getting my 97 cherokee to run, any ideas on what I should try next?

A little more info would help. Like what exactly is it do other the not starting? How was it running before this? Have you checked anything out other just throwing parts at it? Do you have proper fuel pressure at the fuel rail? Do you have a good blue spark?

Is it even cranking?

Take a few minutes and fill out your information on your profile so we know the specs of your XJ. There are still quite a few suspects that can cause a no start that you have not touched (grounds, starter, coil, NSS - if automatic, etc.)

She is cranking, I have fuel pressure, and diagnosed today that I was not getting spark, but no face the battle of getting it into top dead center to get the new distributor in.

Maybe TPS, cap/rotor, o2 sensor(s), load test battery, alt and starter. Have you put a code reader on it? Refresh the grounds and inspect overall condition of ignition components. No water intake right? What kinda wheeling were you doing?

Try starting it with a distributor installed.
