I run 4.56 gears with 33s on my 91 Cherokee Sport with the 4.0 HO motor. It has great acceleration and power and gets 18 mpg on the Hwy. if your XJ is a Daily Driver/Weekend Warrior, I highly recommend 4.56 gears. If it was an off road only rig I would go on up to 4.88s.

4Wheel Parts usually has a gear deal going on for Jeeps. Like I got Genuine Gear, ring and pinion sets and master install kits with Timken bearings for my front D30 and rear D44 for 4 hundred and some change including shipping to my front door. I installed mine myself and saved around 6 hundred in labor cost to have them installed. Hope this helps.
