Exclamation Need some urgent help...

So I got an oil change today (I know, paid 10 bucks to the mechanic to do an easy job, but I was crunched on time and needed to multitask), and I popped my hood at home (because my XJ was running WARM, nearly on the last white line) and I noticed this little orange wire just kinda hanging around. What is this? And does it plug right into that round black thing with the little tip on it? I circled the wire with red and the black thing with blue. While I'm at it, what do these do?

I did but now Im terrified to drive it (my only daily vehicle) with the fear that something is going to go crazy or something. My guess is, after tracing lines running to and from the black thing, that it has something to do with the cooling.

runs usually around 210, however lately the weather hits some 90+ degrees, and its been humid. Plus, I need to clean my radiator from all the mud bugs and junk that is caught in it, but im not sure how to go about that.. and my engine is quite greasy
