Default Neutral Safety Switch extra wire?

Got the usual codes so changed out the nss, seems to be working fine I have reverse lights now. Still have the codes but I'll give it sometime. Just wondering somewhere along its journey someone added an extra wire to the harness side of the plug. Wondering if I should reattach it to the firewall or not thinking its a ground but why?

You need to have the codes cleared to rest it. You can take it to any auto parts store and have them clear it for you.

If that is a black/white tracer wire at the plug, grounding that bypasses the starter interlock, allowing the starter to crank regardless of shifter position. It's a fairly common bypass when the NSS fails.
