FRAMs are the worst you can buy from what I have heard, I plan on doing an oil change soon once my summer break begins in May. I plan on getting some high mileage 10-40 oil and a new ac delco filter. I have an ac on now and it's been running great it's needed an oil change for some time now and is really lite for winter)

Yes sir that is the way they work, thus elimination of dry starts.Also the fram filter has been subject of talk (warings),for years now as they shouldn't be used at all. I don't think a week goes by on any jeep site that the fram filter isn't discussed in some way either.I kinda don't really see how anyone might not know this by now unless they are a total newbie which I guess I can see but with the invention of the web it's really not an excuse, but anyhow good luck to you getting it patched up. Also don't waste your time calling FRAM.

Some of you guy's are confused on filters here. Champion make's wix,stp napa,mopar,mobil 1 ,ac-delco,amisol,k&n,napa,pure one,purelator and many,many more.Honeywell filter's are the one's to avoid one's like FRAM, Motor Master, Quaker State, & some of the Pennzoil filters so hopefully this will help your confusion out.Check this out http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=50371 good luck on your filter choice.(some changes may have ocurred)

i watched 2 race engines throw the number one rod twice, thats 5000 bucks out the window 2 weeks in a row on a friends dirt oval car. as soon as i seen the orange can-o-death on it i knew what it was.

got the car home and cut the filter apart and the cardboard ends they glue the filter media too came apart and plugged it up and sucked the filter media flat! he still had the filter off the first one and cut it open to find the same thing!

needless to say, if i woulda been there when he filled the new engine, he would not have went thru it twice. ive had fram filters do the same thing on street small blocks. and with alot of people running 20w50 in these 4.0 engines to keep oil pressure up it will happen in these too.

my dad used to be a hard core fram guy, after cutting the filter open that he took of his f150 and seeing what it was like inside, he now uses motorcraft and wix!

wish i had pictures of those filters! it was crazy! just a can with a ball of filter media sucked up around the base of the filter.

I took my used OCOD, cut out what was left of their "filtering" media, put in a roll of toilet paper, then sealed it back up with JB Weld.

I pronounce it good.

you do know there really are oil filters that use toilet paper, seriously, a by-pass that only filters a partial bit, not a full flow, like modern filters.

Wish I saw this before, I was always using Bosch Premium but I now have a stockpile of Fram ExtraGuard thanks to combo deals when stocking up on oil

I bought my 97 a year ago and ive always used fram filters (20 plus years).I did notice that after my first oil change that it doesnt run as smooth as it did and it does have a light rattle up top. Will change to a wix this weekend and let you know if it makes any change.

I just switched to Wix (Napa Gold), put in some 10w 30... Haven't noticed a difference from when I bought the Jeep (maybe a month ago) with a Fram on it. Then again, it's always just been running strong. Maybe i'll give the filter some time to work it's magic? We'll see what happens.

I run genuine mopar filters. they have a functional almost fail-proof drain-back valve, and as good of filtering media as wix.

I learned about the OCOD while drag raceing my nissan 240. I changed the oil after geting home from the track filter material was no longer attached to filter. Put a new fram on with fresh oil. Went back the next week lost oil pressure half way down track shut it down killed the bearings. Guess what i found inside the new Fram filter a ball of what used to be filter media. I'll never use a fram again. 2 filters back to back same problem.
