Have you put a real gauge on it LIke a mechanical one that will tell you what your really running at, the factory gauge is lacking a bit , also try it with your factory grill out on the road.

I had the same problem with my first jeep, a '93 xj, only has 86,000 and i replaced the water pump, radiator, upper and lower hose, rad cap, a 195 stat and flushed the system, still overheated bad one day and now it burns oil badly. I tried replacing the 195 with a 180 but that didnt help much. Now i got a '91 with a hair over 205,000, first day i had it she got hot. After turning the heat on full blast it cooled down enough. The next day I installed a 160 thermostat and it runs nice and cool now, just takes a little longer to warm up.
I guess what it comes down to is that jeeps like to run hot

it was the grill, I replaced it and at first on a couple of 115 days it got up to 220 after an hour plus of driving(still a 10-15 degree improvement). now that temps have dropped to the high 90's, I have yet to hit 210, averaging around 200-205..(after long runs)..hood vents being installed this week...should help even more!

the spring in the bottom radiator hose was to keep the hose from collapsing at the factory when they were filling the cooling systems. basically they put the system under a vacuum. this removes all air from the system and checks for leaks at the same time, when they filled the system dropped a hose in to the bucked of coolant and open the valve and it sucked coolant into the system until it was full. other then this. the spring was useless. that is why they dont come on replacement hoses

Man,
I have the same problem. How do I tell if AutoZone sold me a reverse flow water pump and why would they even sell something like that? Can I tell if I have them look up the part number if it’s reverse flow so I don’t have to pull the new pump?

In addition to the new water pump, u've replaced the radiator, t-stat, fan clutch, rad cap, hoses, flushed the system, etc. I believe the OP in this thread was experiencing high coolant temps while driving in summer time high ambient temps in AZ.
