Default new axle

hey guys. i wass recently in an accident with my cherokee and the car basically just hit my rear tire straight on and it bent my axle so i need a new one. my uncle owns a collision shop and he said i needee a new axle and i was thinking right now would be a great time to upgrade my pos dana 35. do they make a dana 44 or a chrysler 8.25 that would fit in the place of my dana 35 without any fabrication needed? and if so can someone please tell me where.

yes there are both the d44 is much harder and more expensive to fin but the 8.25 are fairly easy and can be had for fairly cheap if you do some searching look for a 29 spline 8.25 out of a newer 97-01 xj

You can find the 8.25 pretty easy, the D44 would be much harder to find but is alot better, both will bolt in directly, the 8.25 i have read may require a different drive shaft due to lenght. The best place to get one is the junkyard, craigslist, etc. There are some shops you can get them if you do some research, but they will cost many dollars.

so a 29 spline 8.25 will fit in place of my dana 35 with no fabrication

Yes,the spline count makes no difference when you are changing the entire rearend,my 35 went out and I was about to put in an 8,25,then I found a 44 setting next to it,just lucky, either would bolt in.
Just make sure of the drive line length, the 8.25 is a bigger diff.
make sure you get the u-bolts and spring pads from the 8.25,the tubes are 3" on the 8.25,the 35 is smaller.
Also make sure of the ratio is the same as your D30 in the front.
