Default Are new charcoal canisters available somewhere?

I checked:
Rock Auto
Oreilly
Autozone
Mopar Parts
ETC......

Are there any for a YJ or a ZJ that would work on XJ?
I found a site that shows the same canister for many different models (Not available though) but Is this site correct?

YJ uses the same part number (53009641). The ZJ is a different part number.

Check ebay.

I've heard these are getting stolen off of people's newer JKs in bigger metro areas... (mounted up under the body?)

Thanks for the info and the link guys. I was considering cutting open mine, emptying it out and putting in some activated charcoal from a pet store.
I read about people doing this online but dont know for sure if the charcoal is the same.

The least expensive aftermarket I could find was around ~90 dollars. One of the plastic ports broke off and the canister needed to be replaced.

If looking to replace charcoal I would look for activated charcoal (carbon) with a similar granular consistency. Later model XJ's with obd2, excess gas vapors stored in the vapor canister are reused and fed into the intake by the evap system.

Uncertain of the reason, most vapor canisters aren't designed to replace the charcoal.

I use to have an OEM pellet cat installed in my Jeep. Designed so the pellets can be replaced rather than the entire converter.

I am trying to be proactive before my next smog test since my xj barely passed last time.
Does the charcoal canister have much to do with high HC during the two running tests? The cat has been replaced, I plan on replacing the O2 sensor as well but I dont get any codes, although my xj is OBD1.

Thanks.

The EVAP system on obd2 jeeps feeds excess gas vapors from the canister into the intake. You need to make sure any existing evap & vacuum system hoses are not leaking. Sometimes the vacuum and evap system hoses start to deteriorate, such as the elbows and hard tube connection, start to produce very small, hardly noticeable leaks. Any leaks will influence how the engine is running. Vacuum leak testing, sometimes a liquid or gas such as propane is used to expose very small leaks in the vacuum system.

Air intake temperature sensor also effects A/F ratio, exhaust and emissions. The PCM uses the temp. sensor's values to determine air density along with data from other sensors, to achieve an efficient A/F ratio so the cat converter is able to work more efficiently.

If your barely passing emission testing something possibly effecting the A/F ratio determined by the PCM. Other factors such as belts, spark, ignition, cooling system, exhaust leaks, head, engine, etc. also potentially effect emissions.

I have an obd1/obd2 scanner, that comes with different obd1 connectors. When used on an early 90's Ford obd1 fuel injected vehicle, there were some engine tests such as for the cylinders and tests that would activate certain devices.

The obd1/obd2 scanner manual doesn't list any engine or emissions testing & monitoring for a 95 Jeep. Possibly some DTC history data. Scanner manual instructions for Jeep Obd1 appears to be mostly for code retrieval and clearing. Car manufactures use to be more proprietary, limited obd programming was available for obd1 retail scanners.

Use of a scanner for emission testing & diagnostics, may require a Chrysler DRB scanner.

I'm not sure what else you can do other than perform a tune-up (inspect ignition, including coil spark), check vacuum system for leaks, clean intake, good air filter, exhaust system leaks, wiring harness & plug connectors, test sensors, battery cables and connections, renew grounds, etc. Perhaps perform a compression and leak-down test on the cylinders, no coolant loss and overheating issues, etc.

Jeep On-Board Computer Systems
1993-95: In 1993, Jeep on-board computer systems (fuel injected vehicles only) were converted to the Chrysler on-board computer systems. All 1993 through 1995 fuel injected Jeep and Chrysler vehicles are equipped with similar on-board computer systems.
