Good thread. Mongo like. Nice job Jack...
Might I suggest tune up items (i.e. plugs, wires, cap, etc.) for future posts?

I want to see a thread/sticky on a "used vehicle inspection" that new owners should do before going out and thrashing the **** out of their Jeeps and then crying because their transfer case exploded due to no lube, their driveshaft fell out on the freeway cuz the u-joints were dry, the rearend locked up cuz of no lube. On and on.

This is relevant to my interests, and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
Seriously, though: new owner of a used 95 Cherokee, and new to this whole DIY mechanic stuff. This thread could become very useful.

ahh.. slack adjusters.. gotcha.. im sick today.. sorry i didnt get it at first.. feel horrible
might want to add in that you need to have the rear wheels slightly off the ground to rotate them as you adjust the slack until you start to feel the shoes catch ever so slightly...

There is a LOT of preventative maintenance items. The problem is, where do you stop with a thread like this? Tens, hundreds of ideas/suggestions can be given. Including electrical sections as checking battery and fuses regularly. Happy to contribute, but how broad do you want this to become?

Good info. Will people read it through?
I wish I still had my old "Used Vehicle Inspection" from the dealership.....

Owning an older vehicle requires a lot of up close and personal inspections and maintenance.
Im really trying to stay with tune-up, and common issues and services. This thread is not targeted at the seasoned Jeeper, but the beginning DIY'r

One thing that can be appended to is the "Best Filter" someone may have cut open more filters than I have over the last 35 years correct me if I'm wrong.
The WIX /NAPA GOLD are identical in filtering material and the NAPA Gold line is made by WIX. The last 9 years I raced NAPA was a sponsor on 2 of the cars I raced supplying oil Mobile 1 15-50/NAPA NASCAR Racing Filters (WIX also) with a heave discount on parts and services. Both of these cars ran duel remote filters and 8 qt. pans for a total of 10 qts. each. Consider the was changed every week after a race weekend 4 filters and 20 qts. of oil. So you can see this was no small amount of money in just oil and filters and they wanted feedback.
All in all buy what you can afford but if you want the best here they are. I don't care what kind of BS people feed you very seldom does good oil break down period. It gets dirty so that is where a good filter comes into the game trapping dirt and very fine particle's of metal coming from your engine due to ware.
One additional point are differential fluid changes other than those listed. They need to be changed anytime that when off roading you cross water that cover's them or deep mud where mud or water might enter either through axles or vent tubes in a few cases.
Other than those few items, some debatable a very good sticky IMHO.
