find the 4 banger fastest and easyist just swap rears and dont go any higher than 410 if you go to moriss 4x4 store they have a gear ratio chart that will help with the way you use your xj and the gearing

i just got my jeep back today. the shop had it ripped apart and then called me saying they cant order 4.10 for the c8.25 and i asked hoe much to put it back together so i can go to a shop that can and i was at 1500 already to i just had them do it front and rear 4.56's and now it feels like i still have to keep my foot on the floor on the freeway. i'll see what happens over a few tanks of gas but as of right now i wish i had 4.10

i wasnt at a non reputable shop, best one in the area.
so for 2200 dollars and to not be happy is pretty depressing. since the estimate for the rear was 650 i was expecting more around 1500 dollars

I hate to say this, but if you told them you wanted 4.10 gears installed and they pulled your 8.25 apart before even finding out if they could get the parts to do what you wanted they aren't very reputable!
I think, I would have asked them why the F^&^% did you start on the diff before making sure you had the parts I asked you to install. Then I would have told them to put it back together, at no cost to me and took it somewhere else. Remember, you asked for a specific gear ratio, and you know what, I would bet good money they would have made a call to some other parts place and came up with the 4.10 gears.
Sorry for this rant, but stuff like this just really pisses me off.

That is WAY too much for just a gear change! You could have gone to Dana 60s front and rear for that price

i did tell him to put it together and he said it would cost me 1495 for that. because 750 for labor and the rest was because they had to break my ring and pinion to get it out. believe me guys im very upset and regret it completely. that was the first time i have had anyone else do any work to my jeep. everything else has been me, i just wasnt confident of changing the gears and getting the mesh right.

thank you, i thought it was a high price

i know, i wanted 4.10's cuz that would be perfect but no im ****ed over now. my freeway speed is terrible. i drive across the state alot to fish and i rather be doing 75 instead of 60. i won't be able to afford 75 because it'll be sucking fuel

Sorry, if he pulled that s*** with me, I would have told him that he was the dumb *** that started tearing it apart without knowing if he could get the correct parts so the cost of putting it back together was on him. He broke the gears not you! You were paying him as a professional and he just wasn't professional. The Chrysler 8.25 was available with 4.10 gears so I can not for the life of me figure out how someone could be so supid as to not be able to get a 4.10 ring and pinion set. It is pure BS.
