And if i do need a new engine and got a rebuilt one like this:

Should I be concerned that it has a 331 casting number, or will they have rebuilt one that was broken and it will be fine? Seems a bit crazy to replace mine with one the same that caused the problem in the first place.

They rebuild your own engine. For a non mechanic like me seems like a good plan, it's not cheap, but seems cheaper than buying a rebuilt and having it installed. Anyone ever done something like this?
