Default New guy with lift questions

Hey everybody, I just traded a car of mine for a 92 xj last week. I am thinking about ordering a Rough Country lift kit, I cant decide between a 3" or 4.5" I want the 4.5" but I have a couple of concerens. I dont want to end up with driveshaft vibration problembs, the 4.5 lift comes with transfer case drop brackets. If I go with the bigger lift and use the drop brackets do yall think I will have any issues, also if I use the brackets will I need to do anything to the 4 WD shifter?
Thanks, Bryan

Each jeep is different so you may or may not need a t-case drop. At 4.5" i would say you will more than likely need one if not a sye, but going back to my original statement you wont know till you put the lift on. And yes a t-case drop will mess up the linkage but it can be adjusted very easily.

Thanks, if there is any chance of needing a SYE with the 4.5 I may just go with the 3".

The XJ should have come with a Double Cardin Rear shaft, from the factory. ANY lift can cause the NEED of a SYE, so you can instal the DC shaft. Most can get by with a TC Drop of up to 1", until you lift over 4.5".

As said before you wont know till you lift it.

IMO, SYE or Not is the wrong question. You should be more concerned with Death Wobble. You should be sure you will not get DW, BEFORE, you lift your XJ.

Seach and read a little about Lifting before you do it. Lifting your XJ is Good, but it will also expose every worn component in the rest of the Drive train, steering and suspension.

when I did a 2 inch on mine my truck vibrated like all hell, a t case drop solved it. I am just convinced that when I go bigger I will need and SYE. A buddy of mine is at 3 inches and no drop, his handles great with no vibes and no drop
