New Jeep Owner Questions
Hello, I am new to the forum and a first time Jeep owner. I am in Westchester NY, just north of New York City. Last weekend I purchased my first Jeep, a 1999 Cherokee. I have a few questions and I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
1. Rims and tires - My Jeep, although mostly rust free (other than rockers) has horribly rusty rims and the tread on the tires is not great. I looked up the bolt patterns for different Jeeps and it seems that some of the Wranglers used the same bolt pattern and have similar rims to the ones on my Jeep. My Jeep has 15 inch rims with P225 75R15 tires My question is can I go slightly larger, I have seen 225 75R16 rims / tires on Craigs List. What other sizes can fit assuming the bolt pattern matches. I would prefer some kind of original Jeep rims even if it's not correct to my year rather than third party rims. Any advice of the best place to look for used rims and tires other than Craigs List?
2. The Jeep emblem on the front grill has a J that is broken. What is a good source for a replacement that is an exact fit / font.
3. As I mentioned the rockers are rusted, what is the best place to purchase replacements. I would love to do this myself but I have never welded before. How expensive (ballpark estimate) would it be to have someone do this work or is there an easier way to do this myself? Is there a good step by step guide out there? I've watched a bunch of Your Tube videos but everyone seems to do it a different way and I want to do this correctly.
4. Lastly - although there is no frame rust on the car that I can see I would like to keep it that way What is the best way to protect the under body of my Jeep?
Thank you,
Len
