New Owner! 2001 Jeep Cherokee Limited Edition
Been watching this forum for awhile so I finally bought a 2001 XJ and registered! Very excited about bringing new life to an old Jeep!
First question...what are the top 5 things I need to "tune up" off the bat with my XJ. It's got 125,000 miles but it's in great shape. A few things, it "clunks" when going over bumps (shocks?), it idles a bit rough, and the door squeals like heel when i open it lol. But, 100% clean carFax and awesome condition overall.
List #1 through #5 on the "to-do" list so that I can feel like my new ride is tuned up! Thanks, great forum here!

1. Full tune up change oil-filter, spark plugs and wires, cap and rotor, grease all grease-able spots(front end steering and drive shafts)
2. Change all other fluids coolant, axle diffs front and rear, and trans/t-case.
3. Do a full inspection of brakes, bushings, and rod ends
4. Start saving for recovery equipment, lift, tire, gear, performance, utilitarian necessities lockers

congrats
congrats on the jeep
i would say new plugs, air filter, oil change...typical tune up stuff would be first
changing all the fluids is a great idea
another thing to think about is new o2 sensors, sometimes these can affect mileage and how it runs
clean the throttle body
just about any little maintenance will go along way
i just listed a thread on how to get your mileage up, keep a eye on it for many tips from other jeep owners
congrats on the buy....post some pics

Ooooh, Oooohooo! Ive recently gotten BACK my SilverStone Metallic 01(October 18th, 2010) from an Ex-Girlfriend I gave it to in 2009, and Im lovin her! I just gave Her a Quaker State 10w-40 oil change with oversized NAPA 15151 Pro Select oil filter. I need to do a Coolant flush on Her soon, with only 4,000+ miles that the Ex put on Her, the Fresh coolant I had put in Her before handing over the title was brand new clean and is already rust brownish. What She really needs is a Gud Road TRip...

NGK plugs are a good choice for the 01 distributorless ignition. Verify gap is .035 before installing.
Check air filter of course. Check and replace serpentine belt if over 60k.
New fluids all the way around, unless you have believable records showing that they have been done recently. Oil, transmission fluid, differentials, transfer case, coolant
Your 01 has the infamous 0331 head, which is notorious for cracking with poor cooling system maintenance or ESPECIALLY an overheat. Therefore, your new hobby is to be religious about cooling system maintenance. Replace any original hoses, (10 year hoses need replacing) a new 195 degree thermostat and watch that coolant reservoir closely as the #1 symptom of a cracked 0331 head is coolant loss.
Enjoy your 01!

Woah you guys are extremely helpful. Thanks for the tips - I just put Difinity A/T Tires on her tonight (approx 30") and I will start the forum-provided "to do list" tips this weekend. Will post pics after I wash/wax this weekend!
Thanks again all - just what I was looking for!
