Default New SKIM module.

Hello all, I have a factory '98 Cherokee that does not have the SKIM Sentry Key Imm. Module installed.

I'd like to find one, install it and take it to the dealer to code some keys. (My buddys had his XJ stolen 4 times).

I went to the dealer today and got part number 5003378AE (discontinued). But that seems to be a keyless entry module when I look around on the internet. Some on the net toss around part 56009712AF. Any reccomendations?

Also, does any item in the PCM need to be changed?

And, as some people have issues with the SKIM revolting on them down the road, is it possible to undo the SKIM install and use the old keys?

Cheers and Thanks.

You'd need the module, the reader in the column, and reprogramming the PCM. Not really worth it. If you just want to stop them from actually starting the vehicle, an aftermarket alarm with ignition cutoff would be cheaper.

A good friend of mine had his Corvette stolen twice so he installed a fuel cutoff valve in the floor under a flap of carpet right in front of the driver's seat. It never got stolen again. A manual 1/4 turn shutoff valve.

That's an option. If I leave my Jeep in a sketchy area I pull the fuel pump fuse.

Stick with the aftermarket on this. Not only is it cheaper, but less headache when it acts up. Just undo the wiring and drive away. When SENTRY goes bad it leaves you stranded as the PCM shuts everything down because the key, or some other part of the system failed for whatever reason. And you cant just undo the wiring and drive away. SENTRY wont allow it.

If you do go with SENTRY, spend a little extra for a second key as backup in case the other fails. It happens.

The skim systems are known for having problems, you would be better off hooking up a hidden kill switch.
