Newb problems, 1994 Cherokee gas gussler
I bought a 1994 Cherokee last weekend and it is getting about 11 mpg. I did not buy the vehicle for good gas mileage but I would like to get at least 17-18 mpg.
It has a cracked exhaust manifold and is running on 32 bfg all terrains.
After I fix the exhaust manifold and downgrade to 30 bfg all terrains what gains could I expect to get.
I am also going to get rid of the fender flairs which I feel create Extra drag as it is.
If anybody in Central Texas is looking for 32 bfg's or fender flares PM me.
Thanks

Since the stock vehicle on a good day with the wind behind it got 17MPG brand new, I wouldn't expect to get the same mileage unless everything was back to stock. If you are running larger/heavier tires, suspension etc, I don't think you can make up the difference unless you remove that weight and rolling friction somewhere else.
Fixing engine problems of course will always help.
I'm sure others on the forum will chime in if they have other ideas. On older engines, an injector swap can give better performance but I think fuel efficiency suffers.

Complete tune-up with NGK plugs, Belden wires, Premium cap and rotor from Napa.
Keep in mind that those large tires may be screwing with your speedo/odo and you're getting better mileage than indicated.
Check your speedo calibration using a GPS. Post up how much it's off at 50 to 60 MPH.

thanks guys, I am going to do a complete tune up and get smaller tires to take care of the rubbing and hopefully help the mpg a little bit.
