newb question.
im in the works of getting a 2-3" lift for my 96 cherokee 2wd classic.
couple question i want to ask.
would it look absolutely absurd with stock tires?
im not a extreme wheeler i juss like attackin the urban wheelin like snowy fields and dirt allys i want to go extreme budget so add-a-leaf is fine for me but with the spacers for upfront should i look at delrin plastic or polyurethane? i heard poly warps and loses shape.
if u can throw me some ebay listings.
how can i get some extra mpgs im gettin 13.5mpg now. about 270 and some change to a tank.
i have a air box delete free flow filter cleaned throttle body new iac. i heard the tbs can free up some mpgs.
i juss kicked over 220k miles
i dont mean to post two seperate topics.. honestly im more concerned about the lift question.

There is plenty of info on different lift options already available through searching this forum or others. With 2"-3" of lift, stock tires will look a little out of proportion, but it's a matter of opinion - I would stick with a lower lift size if you really want to keep stocks on it - both for stability and aesthetics. Plenty of pics are out there of different combos.
As far as gas mileage, I gained 5-6 mpg since changing fluids in differentials, transfer case, and having an engine flush done. Not sure exactly which service had the biggest impact - I did it all around the same time. In the end, it's an XJ and you would be hard pressed to pull more than 18mpg out of it.

Check out www.Fatbobsgarage.com lots of inexpensive budgetboost ideas. As far as mileage, make sure your tune-up stuff is in good shape and lay off the skinny pedal! lol

coolio thanks so far guys. im contemplating on a bastard pack from a s-10 and spacers upfront. i still dnt know with what material for the spacers tho.the only reason why im stickin to stock size tires is there bassically brand new wranglers. i got them like 3mnths ago and cant lose out on the 500 i paid for em. id love to stuff some more meat uunder the fenders like my old scorpions but that'll have to wait for these to go out. so even something as small as 3" would look outta place?

Looks are a matter of opinion. If it doesn't bother you, go for it. Again, I would be more concerned about top roll and loss of stability. 3" is a small lift in the grand scheme, but it is a substantial alteration on the geometry of your vehicle. If it were mine, I would sell the current tires and buy something more proportional to the height. Or stick with a smaller BB and keep the old rubber.

And this for your specific questions about the make up of your lift:

Do a little browsing. Chances are you'll find someone else who has done what you are considering.

2wd is tough. Only one way to find out - just test it out a little bit. Dirt trails might be ok but stay out of the mud! Stick to terrain that will give a little bit of traction. No slippery stuff. I'd go with a friend in another vehicle just in case you get into something that you can't get out of. Know your limits and if you want to go beyond, trade it in for a 4X4!

Aussie is cheapest but it will chirp on corners if you are on the gas. If you coast through corners it will ratchet as it only locks when there is torque applied to it. Just buy a 4x4.... 2wd is useless. Yeah you can get some places but its nice to have the extra 2 wheels

Or just convert 2wd to 4x4, i did it for less than what a 4x4 would of cost me. If your comfortable with doing a trans swap then its a cake walk and if you can find a good parts jeep for cheap.
I have a 3" bastard pack lift on stock tires (they are pretty much new and about to buy larger ones) and i think the look is about the same as ppl with 4.5" lift on 31's or 5.5" lift on 33's. Its not a horrible look and it handles fine, no sports car but it ok
