I just finished installing the red Rubicon shocks yesterday. Haven't driven it yet. Did some research on them. From what I can find they are/were(?) made by Tenneco who also make Rancho and Monroe shocks. BUT the Rubicon shocks were built to specs designed by MOPAR. They seem to be a good quality shock on par with the KYB MonoMax except the shaft on the KYB is a larger diameter.

Be careful with that. Haynes and Chilton manuals have lots of errors in them. "Trust but verify" does not apply. Just don't trust them.

Many a Jeep owner has gone bald trying to get his Jeep running after changing a distributor cap because those manuals show a nice, very official looking picture with the spark plug wires in the wrong order on the cap!

Found a brand new in the box rough country 1.5" lift for $100. It's just shocks, coil spacers & shackles. Guy is throwing in a rough country tie rod too! Thinking of using this with crown leafs. Anyone have any experience with the rough country shocks? Or any input on the crown leafs with this setup? What height you think I might expect? Prob pick up a set moot cc782 to put on with the new shocks.

If your using the HD Crown leaf springs with the RC 1.5" shackles you'll be higher than 1.5". Same with the Moog coils your referencing with the RC 1.5" spacers.

Thanks Earl. i'll prob pass on the RC 1.5" lift then. Id rather have the HD crown leafs for the added support when towing and I dont really want any more lift than 1.5-2" tops. I'll prob just go with crown shackles.

Now on that note, i will prob replace the bump stops. I'm finding a variety of sizes of rear bump stops. what is the OE size? looks like crown has a 2.9" and 4.1". why would I want a shorter bump stop? or a longer one for that matter? id think shorter bump would give more room for shocks/leafs to fully extend, and thats a good thing, right? long as shocks dont completely bottom out.

anyone know what bolt sizes I need for the shackles? id like to pick those up before I start, rather than pull a couple out and then take em to the store to pick up what i need.

***on a side note, there is a RC 1.5" lift kit, NIB for sale on CL out of columbia MO. guy is asking $100. prob take less if offered.

Not sure of the shackle bolt sizes. Maybe check here:https:

Stock b/s are 2.9". With ~a 2" lift you'll need longer ones. How long will depend on the collapsed length of the shock you'll use. I'm shooting for around 1 1/2" of exposed shock shaft to allow for b/s compression. Extreme flexing of the suspension like rock crawling may require something different. No hands on experience with that though.

You need to measure for proper bumpstop length. I bought the 4.1" rear stops and cut them to the correct length. I did the same for the front with the Daystar poly extended bumpstops.

A shorter bump stop will give more room for shocks to collapse, not extend. You do not want the shocks to completely collapse, or they will be damaged.
