In the future you could always just call a local NAPA to get the part number before you place the order.

Probably will have to pull the distributor cap up and take a look at the part number on the rotor that's in the jeep. I'm pretty sure it switched part way through 1996.

7252's in my 1991, runs great. I removed very good condition champion 412's and noticed no difference with the ngk's, I only replaced them because I have no faith in champion plugs, even my lawn mower and 2 strokes run ngks.

I wouldn't be afraid to use NGK ZFR5N plugs in place of the Champlion RC12LYC plugs in a '96 4.0.

Those NGK FR5-1 (7252) plugs are an odd duck, with their extended shell. NGK tech could not explain the advantage of the extended shell, other than they said it is a Chrysler design. I say if it were a Chrysler design, why does Chrysler specify Champion RC12LYC (412) plugs (without the extended shell) for their '93-'98 4.0's?

In '99, Chrysler introduced the Champion RC12ECC plugs for the 4.0, at the release of the coil pack (waste spark) ignition system which was installed on Grand Cherokees, but the RC12ECC was also used on the XJ distributor 4.0's for '99.

The NGK equivalent for the Champion RC12ECC is their ZFR5N plug.

Edit: The difference between the RC12LYC "Copper" plugs and the RC12ECC "Double Copper" plugs is that the "Copper" plugs have a Copper center electrode and the "Double Copper" plugs have a Copper center electrode and a Copper ground electrode. This is the only difference between the two plugs.

We'll so far my champion plugs look like this when I pull them out. this is cylinder 2 and 4 because those 2 cylinders seem to always miss the most my other also were missing.
