Default No brake lights and turn signals/hazards

I have a 1996 cherokee xj and Im stumped on a wiring problem. After my last trip into the woods I went to drive home and my turn signals (left and right) brake lights, and hazards all did not work. However my headlights, taillights, wipers, and high beams all worked. I replaced a few blown fuses, and got a new multifunction swith, but it still hasnt changed. Im stumped can anyone help?

Yes there is power at the fuses, and do you have any guesses where the short would most likely be?

So what ended up being the fix for you? I am currently having the same problem and I am stumped as well. When you say ground wire you mean the ground wire coming off of the multifunction switch itself or the ground wire running back to the lights? I'm new to the Jeep thing but I'm very mechanically inclined and I am very stumped on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The weird part of this for me is that when I bought the Jeep it just didn't have turn signals I had flashers and brake lights I pulled the relay for the flashers and now I have no brake lights no turn signals nor any Flash.

there are a few suspect areas on the '96 rear wiring, including an earth terminal inside the rear pillar, and most especially cracked wiring in the harness at the rear,
trailer harness too, (which will probably be there)

a '96 has '95 wiring from the engine bay back, so download the 95 FSM for wire colors, connector locations, its all in there..go to member cruiser54 and download it

XJ also have a known weird issue with harness in Drivers side door, wires go bad, causes many weird issues
