I recently bought a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport and am new to the Forum. Ran rough when purchased so I replaced the spark plugs, valve cover gasket, radiator fluid, battery(old one was toast). After a week the car stopped turning on with no crank even with jumper cables attached. Also something is draining the battery when the car is off so I have been removing the attachments when I am not trying to start the car. I removed and tested both the alternator and the starter and both work but the starter will not click when installed to the car(therefore I don't think I am getting power to the starter even though everything it put together). All the fuses are good. I've also removed, cleaned, and replaced all the grounds in the engine bay. I have not replaced the crank position sensor but don't know what else to do to get it started! Please help!

 

When in the START position your ignition switch energizes the positive on the control side of the starter relay. You should use a lamp or meter to find out if that is happening. If you can engage the starter by jumping the starter relay your problem is almost definitely between the ignition switch and the starter relay (typically the ignition switch itself, but sometimes its a wiring or connector issue).

When you say the car "stopped turning on" do you mean that you get no electrical turning on inside the cabin? (as if the battery is dead or disconnected)?
