Heck, I've lived in the central valley of Ca. It should be illegal to keep your doors on, there, in the summertime.

I email a state trooper last nite about VA door law this was there reply.
There is nothing in the Code that states you have to have doors on a vehicle, however, you would still be required to have the drivers outside mirror and any other safety required features listed for that particular vehicle.

doors are a structural part of the xj's unibody design.
if you're ever in a collision with the doors removed without a roll cage, you're gonna fold that thing like an accordion.
and btw, an xj is not a tub.
examples of a tub design are cj's yj's tj's jk's, yota bj 40, bj 60, early bronco's etc... so what i'm sayin, is, you need a frame to have a tub. haha
a cop may or may not pull you over for this, it all depends on what he know's.... or doesn't know.

My XJ being my first unibody vehicle.....I kind of figured in ANY kind of accident it would fold up like a lawn chair. That's why installing more and more armor as I can afford it.

While in most places it is not illegal to remove your doors it is illegal to not have a drive side mirror. This includes TJ, YJ, ect... I personally just remove mine on the trail since my buddy got a ticket for having the doors off on his YJ and no mirror. Another note is that while it's not illegal a cherokee is a unibody. This means the body and the frame are one. If you get in an accident and roll or have a side impact the force that could have gone through the door now impacts the main pillars which in this case will fold like a tooth pick. Tube doors are great my buddy has some custom ones on his XJ but if you really want to be safe about a full cage would be best. Just remember you sometimes don't get a second chance to fix a problem when it comes to a crash.

What he was referring to is the fact you have to step up to get out of the XJ, so there is a "tub" effect, like the CJ/YJ/TJ.... Where as most vehicles the floorboards are even with the door sill allowing things to escape the vehicle when the doors are opened or removed.

All this safety talk is wasted breath. Remember the little ****** that romped around in the war. Yeah the one with no doors no top and no cage....Pssshhh doors being structural. Who cares.
