I like the look of flares- that is why I still have 31s on 4.5" of lift. I am tempted to go bigger but can't justify the price of the flares. I may make some tube flares, but for now I am happy on my 31s- especially since my YJ just got a new set of 35s.
My wife was probably right though, when I got the new big meats for the YJ she said now I will want bigger tires on the other Jeep (XJ), because they look so small.
If I find a steal of a deal on some 33s I suppose the sawzall will have to come out...
Cheers!

Ugh... Really? I was talking about behavior and attitude. "whatever makes you feel good" is the reason I have to pick up buckets full of empty beer cans every time I ride. It's the reason parks and private areas get closed because some dude thinks it's ok to drive around a gate. People thinking that because their vehicle has a front diff that they are entitled to drive wherever and however they want and leaving whatever they want behind. It's re-re taking his open diff 89 2 door cherokee in the rocks and me having to find something to hook my winch line to because he doesn't have any tow points. Git-er-done plauges the trails with cars that belong on dirt roads. You wouldn't play football without a helmet because it is a necessary piece of equipment. Just like a winch and lockers (or at least a rear) are necessary for the trail.
I'm not suggesting that you invest as much money in your rigs as I have mine, but at least try to generate enough thought as to why someone like me might post in the way I did. In case you haven't looked me up, I own 3 jeeps and the bank lets me drive a 4th. I've bought and sold 6 others in the past 3 years. I have installed over 5 lifts for my fellow jeepers in the last year and I am on most cell phones as the local "recovery guy."
So howse bout you keep your thread opinions to the question asked and get off my back about my opinions.
I couldn't care less of you drive a flippin zuki... I was expressing my opinion on flares. I have them and always will. I think rigs without them look unfinished and cheap. I have probably spent like 1200 on flares on my jeeps buying them new and then having to replace the broken ones...

wow. thanks bigins18, you called me a pre madonas. this is why I waited YEARS to join a forum, because I get called names for my opinions.... LOOK at my rigs you fool...
Since we're striking nerves, here's what I really think. NO FLARES looks cheap. Like you cant spend the $$$ to buy cut-out flares. I've got cut-outs on all 3 of my trail rigs.

Who knew a simple question about flares would spark so much anger?
I roll no flares, had some of the ten buck door trim on the fronts, one side fell off, other still there. Personally, I like it without, but I also run a 1050 tire and it is just barely out of the rear well, and maybe an inch out of the front. many of my friends rigs have the pocket style flares or factory, and they look good. but Im po and cannot afford to drop 400 on flares. In the future I may find some 3/4 inch tubing and doctor up my own, but until I get the motivation its whatever. And I would try the tj style, but my local jy is really proud of their stuff and charges accordingly, Prolly would get four used junky ones for ten bucks less than new. seriously. Its lame.
Anyway, my motto is function over form. I dont want a show rig, I just want to be able to keep up with better equipped rigs on the trail. Like the guy with the tj on 35s whose arrogant enough to put badtj on his license plate. If i can keep up with him while Im on 32 then I just plain could care less about the flares I took off years ago. I am also an advocate of home floor heat vents in your hood. But if anyone wants to pay for some of run cools hood louvres I will gladly install them on my own rig. Come to think of it, buy me some flares and I will run em as long as they stay attatched.

[QUOTE=Go Coastal;659491]I know that cut-out style flares are pricey, but I have run no flares and It makes sooo much more of a mess. I like to ride through the mud, but don't need it all over my rig to prove I was there. I like to be able to spin it hard with my windows down and not eat a few shovels full...
i feel yah here man i wouldnt mind keeping mine clean for more than a day but one water puddle ruins that idea haha

How to?
Is cutting the body and doing no flairs easy?
I've been wanting to do it but I can't even draw a straight line, let alone cut sheet metal
Anyone know some good body shops in nc?
