No full time 4x4
I went to put my Xj in full time today and it wouldn't work. It has never had a problem till this morning. It goes easy I to 4hi but hits a dead stop when going to full time. I am running a 242 out of a 97 zj. I knew the zj well and the zj's owner so I know the t-case history. It has roughly 170k on it and was not abused. My buddy was the zj owner and he took it wheeling only a few times before the zj's death. Any ideas?

i used to have the same problem also but i realized it was from my t-case drop messing up all the linkage angles. also try putting the lever in 2hi and pulling back hard into 4hi thats the only way i could get it to shift into 4hi full time.

The stock linkage for the T-case is junk. I am rebuilding mine or installing a Novak kit once my lift is done.

dont install that Novak kit, its way to expensive and to hard to set up correctly, do this instead and have a much stronger set up http://www.bsfab.net/?p=26

I had a feeling the linkage had to do with it. My linkage is partly fabricated by me. I had to make my own linkage rod because my Xj had s 231 and that rod was too short and the zj rod was too long so I cut the zj rod, shortened it, and welded it back together. I will give it a good yank and see if I can't make it cooperate.

Xj-92, I just had a chance to look at that bsfab link you posted and I think I might look into doing that. I have always had a strong dislike for the stock linkage because is far too complicated and once it rusts it is imposible to adjust.

No doubt about that! I'd like to be able to fab one up, but I'm considering the Novak cable linkage option now just because it seems like less of a headache overall, and adjusts well to height changes. I've decided to hold off on the linkage issue until my lift is done though...it may or may not involve a T-case drop. We'll see!
