No Heat for heater

thank you Stellybill, today I replaced the resistor, but I checked with the light tester to see if there was power to the resister and there was not. At the blower where it connects, the wires are green and black, so Im guessing the green is hot and the black is ground. Im backtracking and they seem to end up at the switch. I might just replace it. A few years ago, my AC was not working so I check the switch and the hardest was melted. So I went to the junk yard and got another hardest. So I got power from the big fuse under the hood, to the fuse under the dash which then goes to the switch, I think.

Old fart with a wrench
Okay, blower is wired hot, grounded thru the resistor and switch. Switch chooses which resistor tap to ground in order to control speeds. Blower switch is grounded thru the mode switch in anything but off. Blower becomes live when the relay is engaged by the ignition key on in run, not accessory. If the resistor is toast, the blower motor is drawing too many amps.

Thanks dave1123, that is great info. thats what I was trying to understand, how it worked so I can trouble shoot. I was wondering if I left something disconnected when I was putting everything back together, but I don't recall disconnecting anything that had to do with the controls for the AC/Heater. I will go take a look and give an update.

If you have your key in the "Acc" position on an older XJ where the wiring goes through the ignition switch, it WILL run the blower.
On my 95 I constantly have to turn the HVAC to "Off" so I can listen to the radio in the Jeep without the engine running.
The ignition switch changed in the 95 model year to use a new style ignition switch similar to the 97+ models (due to the presence of a driver's side airbag, I'm assuming). 94 and prior (without airbag) uses the ignition switch that's down the column and is completely different, so it's possible that your fan wouldn't run in "Acc". However, I seem to recall my Dad's old 94 XJ running the fan when the key was in "Acc" similar to my 95.

thanks for the info PatHenry. I haven't been able to find the issue yet but all this info helps. I am going to try to get it going in the morning.
