thats your disco front end... what most people convert to solid inner axles from a TJ or a cable conversion or something like that... always causes problems on the trails not letting you get 4x4 and labeled as JUNK to the jeep world... also driving in 4x4 HI is perfectly fine... that what its designed for man... just hard to turn and can wear out axle joints and bearings easily turning alot in 4 hi on dry pavement... but 4 hi is for driving in snow or rain or whatever when you want to... your front diff is fine...

Actually you should NOT be driving on dry pavement in 4HI unless you have the 242 Tcase with the full time option. Using PART TIME 4HI on dry pavement locks the front and rear diffs together and they must spin at the same speed. Without slippery surfaces to allow wheel slip especially in turns you run a good risk of blowing up your Tcase.

take a hack saw and cut the pipe before the cat if its really that necessary, or if its a factory one, just un bolt it. drive it home with no exhaust...
otherwise i have no idea....can you idle home? haha
its not the coolant that would be worrying me, its fumbling around under the hood...you might have knocked something loose...check all your vacuum lines, and sensors and plugs and whatnot.

Dude, you're looking at this ALL wrong. What you need to do is move to Richmond, or somewhere remotely closer to me. Then when crap happens, you can call me or one of my Jeep buddies to help you out. I think I know enough people who are into Jeeps that we could pick up and physically carry your Jeep off the side of the road if needed.
Hell move to Chesapeake, find a roommate, two or 4 and rent out my mom's house. 4 br 2 1/2 bath, garage, kitchen, dining room, living room and a decent sized yard for $1200ish/month. and you're still only 30 minutes from the beach. and its something like an 1800sq ft house.

lol yeah. True enough but I have been through that room mate crap for quite long enough. It would be nice to have pals to help out and all but man...did the room mate thing for a good 8 yrs or so.

lol, it has its pro's and cons. if I could afford to not have them I might. Or just deal with them and have more money. i'm happy where i'm at though.

Oh ... yeah. I put it in 4wd to ease myself up my ramps instead of using 2wd and making it harder on myself. I just forgot I had used 4wd and headed out on the road like normal.
I guess by chance all the turns I made on the way to drop off the old coolant were shallow enough for me to not even notice I was in 4wd or anything.
Then when I went to make a hard turn I stalled, panicked and figured I broke something. lol.
I panic easy when it comes to auto stuff.

yeah. Mine is Manual too and normally I notice too. I don't know really why I didn't this time. Probably just a combination of the heat, being tired from not sleeping the previous night, frustration of actually doing the coolant change and it occasionally acts strange on start up/take off anyway. But oh well.... crap happens. Now I have the fuel pump issue to work on. After that HOPEFULLY Ill get a little breather before something else breaks and I can start getting ahead on replacing things like the tires, belt, plugs, wires, dist cap, and cat before they decide to crap out on me too.
