Default no reverse???

I have no reverse in the XJ.

Just incase you cant tell its an auto tranny

Park is Park
Reverse does nothing
Netural goes foward and so does all the other gears.
wont go into 4 wheel low.

while driving to pick up some pizza for the fam the jeep some how slipped into netrual (I nore anything else hit the shifter) so i waited till i came to a stop and put it back into drive. everything went fine up untill i tried to pack out of my parking spot, and i couldnt. I couldnt move the jeep in any gear with the engine running either, so i shut it off and pushed it out and drove it home. Now i am here the trip to the deadly pizza is prolly less then 10 miles round trip.

does any one have any ideas as to what could be the cause to this??? I was thinking shifter linkage maybe but idk

ok so idk what i did but i got under the jeep today and forced the jeep in to gears from underneath while my girl held in the button on the shifter. then i went up top and took my center console cover off and was messing around there and found a cable that was unhooked it was the one that is closest to the passenger its the park lock cable. so i hooked it back up and then i had i really hard time putting it into gear. i had to force it by hitting the little notch that holds that shifter in a gear with a flat head screwdriver. well since i had so much trouble i disconnected the cable and i now have reverse?????

idk what the prob was or what i did to get reverse back

I'm having the same problem too. I'm not sure where to look.

How did you force the jeep into gears?
