Ok...........I've got my control units confused then. What is the yellow box on the left side cowl, directly under the steering column and next to the emissions timer?
So, it was indeed the TCU that was unplugged but still, why would that make the PT light come on and stay on?
Oh wait............I just remembered something. We found a plugged vacuum tube under the hood and one of those little "one way check valve looking things" near the firewall below the coolant bottle.........I remember someone hooking them together. I wonder if that valve was actually a vent that has something to do with the front axle. I'll disconnect it today and replug the tube since I have no idea what it goes to, and see if the light goes out.

I don't know if you're messing with me or if you're serious.
The PT light problem fixed itself on my way to work this morning. It came on when I first cranked it up but, went back out before I left the driveway. I had to use 4x4 to get up the hill at the end of the street because it was still frozen over. The light came on after I shifted into 4H and went back off after I shifted back to 2H, just like it's supposed to........and no trouble out of it since then. Never touched the vacuum hose BTW.

Not messing with ya.
Why don't you just bypass that troublesome CAD axle crap and eliminate the vacuum harness for it.

$99.95 sounds reasonable to me.

I've been thinking about doing that. I was looking at this kit. Is it any good?

Got a locker in the front? If not, just do this:

Why spend $100 when you can do it for free?

Update on the PT light. It started acting up again. It would turn on when I first cranked the engine, then go out about a minute later. I also noticed it would flash as I was turning off the key. I disconnected that vacuum tube I mentioned earlier and it solved the problem.
The only question now is, what the hell is that vacuum tube supposed to be connected to?
The weather has turned from cold and snowy to warm and rainy so when the rain decides to let up, I'll take a pic of that vacuum tube and maybe you (or someone) can tell me where it goes.

Eh.......maybe but, I'd rather not have my front drive shaft turning all of the time.

You're pissing in the wind, my friend.
The vacuum was only one issue that could leave you stranded without 4wd. They went through 3 versions of shift forks, had mis-machined axle splines causing the fork to stick, vacuum switches on the transfer case fail, vacuum hoses get torn off when driving off-road, vacuum harness deteriorating due to oil spillage from the filter at change time, diaphragm failure in the servo unit.....
That's when they were new when I was Service Manager at the dealership.
Think they're working better now? Improved with age?
Every stinkin snow day we would have pissed off people lined up cuz their 4wd didn't work.
