Check out this thread
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/199...anking-192053/
I ended up jumping B and C on the harness in mine until I clean it up. #23 on the above link. I have to go thru the cleaning procedure in the thread above. But until then, Mine starts every time.
=======================
Seems that cleaning procedure link is gone? I'll look for my printed copy.

Thanks EZEARL
Glad you had another link. I'm still looking for my printed copy. I'll definitely be using that link you posted for doing mine. I need to remove my jumper.
A55MULL3T, post when you solve your issue.

As mentioned it is almost sure to be the NSS or Neutral Safety Switch. The good news is that if it should eventually get to the point where it won't start in P or N (And rest assured it will) you can easily "by-pass" it by jumping the 2 black wires together and get started and going

after reading all these helpful replies and the links to older threads and picture writeups, i have decided (more like my empty wallet has decided...Just Empty Every Pocket) to 'jump' it for now, go to pickNpull and grab another (13.99) so I can rebuild it.
what black wires do I jump?,

This write-up from GoJeep (my favorite) lists the pinouts and what to jump to bypass.

A55MULL3T: I have the same empty pockets.
My connector was labeled B and C. I used a paperclip and jumped the Switch connector with a paperclip. Used the larger paperclip, bent it and cut it. Slide it back probe style and taped it. Worked and was easy to do. I jumped the Switch side of the harness in case there there was a problem. Easier to replace that side than the wiring harness to the Jeep if I screwed up and broke it. No worries though. Easy. Been a few months now and just haven't gotten to it yet. Be careful, it will start in gear since bypassed it.
I got one from the yard and will do that one too. In case I break mine pulling it out.
Ridiculous how much new costs. Dealer quoted I think $400. And AZ was $200. For a bleeping switch. All that is inside is copper contacts and a rotating lever.
