I have a '99XJ Sport with a no start problem. I think I have a wiring short, but here's everything thats been done over the past few months:

Only drove it once a week, once every other week over the winter as I had some work I wanted to do to it. Over the winter my alternator started to freeze up. I would start the Jeep and the belt would squeal like crazy. Checked the belt and tension, didnt make a difference, checked the alternator and had a time time spinning it. Put a new one in 2 months ago, everythings great.

About a month ago my battery started crapping out. Its 10 or 12 years old so no big deal. Bought a new battery, good as new.

Ran it a few times with the new battery no issue, then all of the sudden I get in and turn the key and nothing. Radio's on, lights are no, no dash lights (check engine, etc.) so I dont understand whats up. I have one of those EVSII starter security things so I hit lock/unlock a couple times and Jeep starts up. Over the last week or two its done this to me 2 or 3 more times. Each time its gotten progressively harder to get her to start. For the last few days I cant get her to turn over at all.

You can hear the fuel pump when you turn the key on, battery gauge is great, radio works, interior lights, etc. I use the lock/unlock on the fobber and it doesnt help. One thing I JUST noticed while trying it tonight, the security system usually makes a "click, click-click, click-click" sound. Always. Since we bought it in 2002 its always done this. There is also a little red light on the lower right side of the steering wheel. Today I noticed the light was gone.

So, I took off the dash panels under and around the steering wheel and sure enough, the light "fell out" as the wires had been cut somehow, sometime. Then I pulled out the EVSII Security Plus box and it is not "clicking". I hit lock/unlock and every once in a while I can get it to click, but it stops almost immediately.

So, anyone have any experience with this? Is my no start issue being caused by the EVSII system?
