Noise over 25mph in 4x4

Default Noise over 25mph in 4x4

Hey guys we had some decent snow in my area today and my newly acquired 92 XJ auto np231 was making a noise when I was going down the highway over 25mph but only when I let up of the gas under 25 u don't here it but over 25 and I let up to cruise I hear it any ideas on what this could be?

It's hard to describe it's not like a normal bad bearing noise but it's not a harsh metal grinding noise either it sounds like it's coming from the center to front under the Jeep

Those 231s are temperamental. They don't like high speeds. Unless you were slipping, you should be in 2wd

The ground was snow cover about 4-6" and I was all over the place in 2wd and it's been so cold and ****y weather I haven't had any chance to get under the Jeep haven't even had it a month yet bet I will check the U-joint and all the fluids ASAP

If the roads were covered in snow and ice, you had no business going 25 in the first place. Not trying to be a dick, just saying.

More than likely............

When's the last time the u-joints were greased? Especially that PITA set-up at the rear of the front shaft............

Ever checked the fluid level and condition of the trans,transfer case, and diffs?
