We put fresh gas in, and it still did everything mentioned.

E brake is off, doesn't feel like a drag, but rather it will start speeding up then all of a sudden lose power. Like the transmission doesn't continue to pull through. Or something.

It can rev all the way to full throttle in park, haven't tried it in neutral but would assume it is the same.

What are drums? Brakes?

I haven't looked inside of my rear diff (dana 44), but the outside looks fine?
Describe "lots" in terms of "pounds per square inch".

Might be worth the effort to check the cat/converter too. A partially clogged cat can cause the symptoms you described.

drop tank clean completly or replace clean pump up and get replaced with new one if brown crud was in filter it went thru pump ,then new filter and maybe different gas station? this should eliminate the fuel aspect of problem...

A few days ago, it was just over 30 I believe. At idle... We didn't test it while acceleration. I'm thinking of renting a gauge again - what is it supposed to be?

Thanks guys. I'll report back in when I check out that fuel gauge and get a new pump on. This time I'll take the extra time to take the tank off and see what is inside. I may have already pumped most of the nasty stuff out.

issue resolved.

I dropped tank. The pump actually quit working last night... So I was dead sure that was the problem. I figured this time I'll do it right. Well, there was a solid layer of brown crud, and a good 3 gallons of nasty, filthy gas in the bottom. Dumped that, cleaned it out, etc... Then installed the new pump. asked Napa to take their stupid carter one back, and I got a bosch one free. The thing no longer hums, nor does this problem persist.

I gotta say, the bosch one fits together much better than the carter. I highly recommend it.. and it isn't noisy! Highly worth 10 extra $.

Cheers from a happy cherokee owner (finally!).
