Yes, fill til it runs out of top plug. You can just use a large cresent wrench.

The plugs are flush with the case.

If its the Allen wrench type, you'll need a 10 mm.

Here's a good write-up on why. ATF +4 is actually better. Dump the Dexron!

No.. there is no reason not to use Dexron in it...

Dexron is what was specified in the NP 231 straight from Jeep... It wasn't until Chrysler took over and wanted to sell more of their ATF+4 licensed fluid that they changed.

x2

Honestly, it won't matter which you run in there, as long as you HAVE a lubricant lubing the internals.

Find a bolt head that fits in the hex opening and put a couple of nuts on it and tighten one against the other (double nutting) then use a regular socket to remove the plug.

Stick with the Dextron. Why get another type of fluid which you don't want to accidently put in your AW-4.

Dexron is an outdated lube. Sure...any fluid will work, but it just depends on how long you want your t-case (and tranny) to last.

Read the report...the numbers don't lie!

You mean Chrysler who recommended using Dex III in every AW-4 until the warranties expired on them, then started recommending ATF+4?? You mean Chrysler who recommended using GL-5 lubes in AX-15 transmissions even though it destroys the bronze synchros in them?? It's not like they have an ulterior motive to bash a fluid that GM makes money off of.... The comment that Dexron is outdated is foolish... Dexron is simply the marketing name that GM uses for its licensed auto tranny fluid. There isn't a single formulation of it. In fact there are two or three current Dexron formulas being offered. They are intended for different applications. Just like Ford has a handful of different formulas for it Mercon brand name transmission fluid.
