You may want to pop the diff cover and check your gears. I blew out some spider gears in my front end and it was fine driving straight, but would make a grinding noise when I turned left (2 or 4wd). When turning the differential action kicks in to allow one wheel to spin faster than the other so that is why I only had the problem when turning. The reason it was worse when I turned left was because the spider gears were broken worse on that side. Good luck!

Little late on reply but problem solved
Well four years later, I feel like an *** for not posting my fix in case someone else is having the same problem The fix was as simple as could be. The transmission mount was shot which let the tranny drop a couple inches throwing everything a little askew. New mount lifted it back into proper position, noise gone.
