The problem with mine is that threaded swivel piece with the four slots is clamped down on the rod that it slides on to. I've tried both Liquid Wrench and PB Blaster at the same time and nothing happens. I'm thinking that as I pry on the nut the threaded ears are grabbing more.

Another question...if the shaft end is held will the threaded part pivot on the shaft if forced to pivot or is it a rectangular part that it sits on? I'm hoping if I can get the threaded part to pivot on the shaft some the lubricant will get under and let me take it off. That's why I need to figure out a tool that will bite in the slots perpendicular to the threads so I don't clamp that to the shaft. Any ideas?
Thanks for your insight!!!

BlueXJ, Thanks for the link! That girls pictures show her threaded swivel arm having gaps in the cut parts that are way wider than mine! The nut is there for a reason. I'm sure it's tapered to lightly clamp the swivel arm to the shaft. My swivel arm gaps almost touch each other at the end where the nut starts on the threads. Someone in the past cranked the nut on so tight it crushed the end of the swivel. I pried on it really hard, but I don't want to ruin the NSS or even something inside my transmission that is connected to that shaft. That's why I thought I could put a slot in that gap and wiggle the swivel arm? I'll relay info if I figure out something. Meanwhile if anyone else has any ideas please chime in! Thanks!!!

You can see this neutral line in the link by ol"blue. The last 2 pictures.

For the other trannys, it say to move the shift lever to the Park and Neutral positions and verify that the operating lever fingers are centered in the switch opening in the transmission case. The picture for this is not too clear to me, but looking at the switch it may be understandable.

Any way, hope this helps and good luck with this repair.
It took me awhile to figure out what they were saying in the manual. If you read it again what you wrote is about reinstalling the NSS. The switch to talking about reinstalling it mid paragraph so it's confusing! All they really say is "Remove thew adjusting bolt, pry back the locking tabs, remove the nut and remove the sensor. Remember they write these when the vehicles are either new or a year old when everything will come apart easily. Twenty years later things are a bit tougher! My patients came from restoring a 1960 Triumph TR-3A. The British put the nuts on welded holders inside the panels so all they has to do was thread in the bolts. Twenty years later up here in the areas where they salt those welded holders open so the nuts spin. Every single bolt had to be drilled out!!! NOTHING will ever be as tough as that!
I will share ideas on how I get my NSS off when I finally do!

Don't feel bad! It took me quite a few times to read it correctly myself. At first reading it sounds like you're supposed to remove something on the left side of the transmission. At second reading I thought manually clicking it into neutral was a way to release the NSS. Then it dawned on me that they were referring to how to position it during the reinstall. If others read this it may help them disipher the manial too. That is if they're the few that search the archives!!!

I will be preforming this task soon, will post when i am done.
After reading a lot of problems with removing the nss. It sounds like all the issues are isolated up north or where you have to drive in a lot of salt. Does this sound accurate?
My jeep has been in the south all its life and has never had any rust or corrosion issues. so hopefully i wont have any problems if thats the case

DearJimmy, thank you for your kind words. I can't read SO, I move on to plan B.

Often times in working on things I have to make a special tool. So I offer this idea if it would fit in that location. I call it my NSS TOOL.

It would not be that hard to make if the area allows for its use. You can them press the switch off. Since I have not seen the location of the switch, I do not know if this would be workable.

But, the tool would provide an even pull for extraction.

Any thoughts??
