the NSS is just for starting in neutral. doesnt control the reverse lights. things to check:

power to the lights
gear selector switch

Not true at all!! Your problems are a direct result of a NSS that needs to be cleaned. Search the net for a how to step by step guide. A new one cost $200+, which is a waste of money when the old one can be cleaned.

upon further research, the NSS is the gear selector switch in renix jeeps. wiggle the shifter to see if you get any of your backup lights to come on.

and no. to clean it you need to take it out.

Wanna try the simple check first? If the "trans" fuse in your fusebox is blown you will have no reverse lights.

Wouldn't that also entail other issues?

Yes. The Power/Comfort switch would have no power to it.
Actually it's usually an internal short of that switch that blows the fuse.

I'll PM you my address and you can ship me a six-pack of Guinness Extra Stout. LOL.

I didn't believe that could be it when I heard about it a year ago. I so doubted it that I went out to the garage and removed the fuse and checked to verify it.

Keep the Power/Comfort switch in Power BTW.

Sorry you missed out on all the fun of doing the NSS repair........

X2^ I also got one on ebay pretty cheap from a high rated seller with a one year warranty, never gave me any issues.
Also did you check to make sure the reverse lights are actually coming on now? Or did you just assume because the comfort switch or what ever is lighting up now? My reverse light issue was due to the NSS. Also it should only take an 1.5 hours max to change it out, and that's only if the switch is hard to get off the shaft.
