Amongst others, CCKen might be able to shine some light there.

The switch has to be rotated for the contacts to line up correctly.
Put it in Reverse and tweak it until the backup lights come on. Then doublecheck it will start in Park and Neutral (only).

Copy. Thanks for the info. Forgot to check to see if it would try to start in anything other than park but clearly it needs adjusted.

^yep.
I thought mine started with no b/u lights first, then not wanting to start in park consistently, and then the same in neutral. But after I cleaned the NSS I found that my trans when in 1-2 would stay in 1st rather than wanting to upshift to second at around 1500rpm which it had been doing on and off for a few yrs. I just thought it was the nature of the beast.

I'm about sure 87-90 doesn't use the NSS info for shifting. I do remember some poster mentioning it can affect 00 & 01. Between there all I can say is lots changed in 96, (as well as 00). It's not normally brought up in shift problems with the AW4.

"you mean its supposed to shift itself out of first in 1-2? Mine stays in 1 to red line and will downshift to 1 at 25 mph."
Don't know when mine will upshift. I don't run the ol'girl that hard. But what VTJeep said above is right. I do like the engine braking it provides though.
