Default O2 sensor and check engine light

Well my exhaust decided to finally go. The muffler has a huge whole and the pipe is leaking in like 3 different places. Anyways until I take it into the shop to get a new exhaust I cut of the exhaust from under the door. Any ways shouldn't my check engine light come on? I know my light works because it pops on when I turn the key. It never came off when the cat was removed either. Is my check engine light broke or should it not come on if you have like no exhaust? Haha

Depends on the years most 96 to 01 with ob2 will make the light come on, my 94 has no cat and a flowmaster I have no cel on it's only come on once when the cps quit.

Did you cut out any of the O2 sensors? Just having a shorter exhaust shouldn't affect anything... if you cut out the sensors then something should have popped the light.

As long as there aren't any holes between the engine and the o2 sensor, you should be fine. It wasn't until obdII hit that they added the second o2 sensor to monitor catalyst efficiency. Your 94 just has the one that is used to adjust fuel.

Alright thanks. I just cut the pipe from below the door and wasn't sure where the o2 sensors would have been located
