Default O2 sensor/CPS install...

Hi guys,
I'm hoping to get my new to me 98 XJ 4.0 into the shop after the Christmas bussle.
The Gentleman I purchased it from kept it in near mint condition, and we have talked of everything he has done to it over the years.
He told me the upstream O2 sensor needs replaced, and included one with the XJ as well as a CPS.
The 4x4 light switch isn't working as well.
I am gonna tackle these first, and thought I'd tap into the forum knowlege base for the easiest route replacing these items.
The original CPS seems to be working fine, no stalling, and I assume that would be the symptom of a bad one?
He told me the wires got a bit scorched when a Borla header was installed on it.

If it actually goes into 4wd then you have a broken wire usually right near the switch on the transfer case. I cant remember wher it is exactly...its been a few years but its right under the drivers seat in a dark dirty place. connector on switch...then short harness to another connector...2 wires

If it's the oem CPS sensor, I'd probably just inspect the damaged wiring and make sure it's secured away from the exhaust. Keep the aftermarket as a spare.

It's locking into 4x4 just no light..
I'll have a peek when I get it up in the air. Below the drivers seat.
Thank you..

10-4 I do believe it's the OEM he said it gave him grief after the header install, and I assume he must have taped it up, and picked up the after market one in case the OEM gave up the ghost.
I'll have a look when I get it in the air...
Thanks eh

Correct. That or a no-start, especially when hot.

Do NOT remove a working OEM CPS and replace it with an aftermarket. This forum, and every Jeep forum, is buried in stories of aftermarket CPSs being dead out of the box, or lasting just days or weeks ore months. I have heard exactly ONE person say that his aftermarket CPS had been in for a few years and he had not had any problems.
