Default Occ. rough idle and dragging rt frt. brake

I have an 01cherokee and a "sometimes" problem. (lucky me) If the engines idles rough and I try to drive it, like home, the rt. frt. brake drags and yesterday it was smoking. Brakes are brand new pads and rotors and also coil rail is new. I had this problem once before and now it came again. I suspect an errant signal is getting to my ABS unit but only the rt frt. is affected. There are no brake related codes only a random misfire... again. Any ideas out there? tks.

How old are the brake hoses? The rubber can deteriorate from the inside out and keep the brakes from releasing. A bad caliper can do the same. Also, check the knuckle for grooves where the pads ride.

Default rough idle and rt frt. brake

I don't know the age of hoses.. 6 years I have had it they are same. I will be lubing the studs and anywhere the pads ride! never ever heard of this in my history of disc brake jobs but I will do it! Any thoughts as too my abs issue?

Possible ideas;
- collapsed brake hose.
- stuck caliper.
- caliper slide is groves.
- wrong wheel bearing for the brake rotor.
- wrong brake rotors for the wheel bearing hub.

In 1999/2000, somewhere there was a wheel bearing / brake rotor design change.

Also, when you do brakes yourself, a lot of people just like to push the brake caliper piston back into the caliper. I've seen ABS pumps get messed up, because contaminated fluid is pushed into the ABS pump. Always make sure you open the banjo bolt / bleeder screw when pushing the piston back. Allow the brake fluid to come out of the banjo bolt / bleeder screw. Tighten the banjo bolt / bleeder drew back down WITHOUT getting air into the system.

If / when you buy brakes, make sure you have the correct year wheel bearing hub, with the correct brake rotor. Maybe check out this website.

As for the possible ABS issue, check to see the ABS sensor is secure. Make sure the exciter ring isn't bent or missing a tooth. You might have to roll the dice and throw a QUALITY ABS sensor at it, since it's an intermittent problem. Or, just wait until you get a complete failure where you can diagnose it.

Do you have a DVOM (Digital Volt Ohm Meter), with a graphing display, like a Fluke meter? You can watch the On/Off signal of the ABS sensor in graphing mode, when you spin the tire.

Thanks for all the info. I have learned, and found much during this hunt! My two problems are not seemingly attached more just happening at same time. My frt. brake issues seem to have been a worn caliper and hose issue also a deep grove in the area where the pads ride. All is back together and so far so good.
